Set joint location in bulk
When a project’s joint locations were entered inconsistently — blank, or spelled differently from weld to weld — you can clean them up in bulk instead of editing each weld one at a time. Select the welds on an ISO’s weld matrix, choose the value, review what will change, and confirm. This is the in-app replacement for the review-first SQL clean-up scripts used against the legacy app.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need edit access on the project (Weld Associate or higher).
- Open the ISO and its weld matrix. The action is available while you’re viewing a single ISO’s matrix — it uses the ISO’s loaded weld detail to show you each weld’s current value before you change it.
- Setting joint locations is a server action, so you need a connection. Only synced welds can be updated; a weld created offline that hasn’t synced yet is left out until it does.
- A weld on a signed ISO, or on a signed test package, can’t be edited and is reported back rather than changed.
Set the joint location on selected welds
Section titled “Set the joint location on selected welds”- On the ISO’s weld matrix, select the welds to update — tick one weld or several.
- When at least one weld is selected, the bulk bar appears showing n selected. Choose Set joint location….
- In the Set joint location on n welds panel, review Current → proposed: one line per
current value in your selection (for example
Shop, a legacy spelling such asfield, or Unset) with the number of welds at that value. - Under Joint location, choose Field, Shop or TPS. The preview updates to show what each line will become.
- Select Apply to n welds. Nothing changes until you do — Cancel closes the panel without touching any weld.
MaxTrax updates the welds and tells you how many were set. Welds that already had the value are counted as set.
Each weld is updated on its own
Section titled “Each weld is updated on its own”The batch is applied weld by weld, so it can partly succeed — most welds update while any that hit a
check are left as they were. Any weld that couldn’t be updated is listed under Could not
update, by weld number, with the reason (for example iso_signed for a weld on a signed ISO).
You can fix the cause and apply again; welds that already succeeded are dropped from the selection
so they aren’t re-submitted.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”- The new value shows in the weld’s detail and in reports that carry a joint-location column, such as the weld history report.
- Each changed weld records the change in its audit trail with the previous and new value, so a bulk clean-up can be reviewed weld by weld.
- Only the joint location changes. Nothing else on the weld is touched.

Section titled “Related”- The ISO weld matrix — selecting welds and the bulk bar.
- Move welds to another ISO — the other bulk action on the same bar.
- Complete a weld & test-package sign-off — where a single weld’s joint location is set as part of completing it.
