Edit a weld

Correct or complete a weld’s descriptive data without re-importing it. Open the weld from its ISO’s weld matrix, choose Edit, change what needs changing, and save. Only the fields you change are changed; everything else on the weld is saved back exactly as it was.

  • You need edit access on the project (Weld Associate or higher). A Reader doesn’t see the Edit button.
  • Editing is a server action, so you need a connection. Edit is available once the weld has synced; a weld created offline that hasn’t synced yet can’t be edited until it does.
  • Edit doesn’t change a weld’s status. Status moves only through Complete weld, inspection results, Repair… and Void… — see Weld status lifecycle.
  1. On the ISO’s weld matrix, open the weld’s drawer.
  2. In the drawer’s footer, select Edit. The Edit weld number panel opens, filled in with the weld’s current values.
  3. Change the fields you need. They are grouped as Weld (type, weld date, diameter, wall thickness, pipe schedule, procedure, inspection class, closure weld), Joint (spool, joint location, description, filler heat ids, steps), Side 1 and Side 2 (component, material, heat and ASTM ids for each side of the joint).
  4. Select Save weld. MaxTrax saves the weld, confirms it, and closes the panel.

Cancel closes the panel. If you’ve changed anything, MaxTrax first asks Discard changes? — choose Keep editing to go back to your changes, or Discard changes to close without saving.

When the project uses structural welds, the panel also shows a Structural group: Discipline, Length (in), Size (in), Piece mark and Joint ref. On a project that doesn’t, those fields are hidden and saving leaves them as they are. If the server rejects a structural value because the project hasn’t turned structural welds on, the message appears on Discipline.

If the weld changed while you were editing

Section titled “If the weld changed while you were editing”

If someone else saved the same weld after you opened it, your save is refused and the panel shows This weld changed. Your edits are kept. Select Reload latest: fields you didn’t touch take the latest saved values, the fields you changed keep yours, and you can then select Save weld again. Until you reload, saving is blocked, so you can’t overwrite the other person’s change by accident.

If the server rejects a value, the message appears on that field. If the save fails because of a connection or server problem, your edits stay in the panel — select Retry to try again.

  • The weld’s new values show in the weld matrix once it refreshes, and in reports that carry those columns.
  • Status, inspections and repair lineage are untouched by an edit.
